Chute Pond Snow Drags Feb 11, 2006. Mountain, WI. Chute Pond- 5 miles south of Mountain on Hwy 32. Snowmobile Drag Races at Chute Pond County Park. Free admission for spectators. Racer's registration at 9:00 am, racing at noon. $5.00 entry fee. Classes: 0 to 600 and 0 to 800 (2 separate classes) unstudded, and also studded classes by engine size. There's more! IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP -- The 2006 Copper Peak Snowmobile Hill Climb is scheduled for Feb. 25, according to officials from the Mid America Snowmobile Tournament of Extreme Racers and Copper Peak Ski Flying Inc.
The event has drawn thousands of fans and is considered one of the best attended single-day snowmobile events in the Midwest. It draws drivers from all over the United States and national media coverage.
"This is a good weekend as far as people being able to get rooms in the Bessemer, Ironwood, Wakefield, Hurley area," said Charles Supercynski, president of Copper Peak.
Last year, the Copper Peak Snowmobile Hill Climb was postponed twice before finally being canceled because of poor snow conditions at Copper Peak. It was the third time in eight years there was no competition, according to MASTERS spokesman Skip Schulz.
"This event is not for the average snowmobiler," said Schulz. "This is considered to be the most challenging snowmobile hill climb east of the Rockies, and is only for drivers with a lot of skills and courage."
The MASTERS circuit started the event in 1997 and sanctions the hill climb.
